Hurricane Sandy

Grammy came to visit just before Halloween.  Unfortunately, this was the same timeframe that Hurricane Sandy hit, which left poor Grandad to hold down the fort in Delaware while Grammy was in Cleveland.  Ironically, the storm was worse in Cleveland where we had 70mph winds and lost power for 2 days (of course, we were still very lucky!).

While most of our fun plans were cancelled, we tried to make the best of things.  And even in the cold, dark house, it was still so nice to have Grammy in town.  You'll notice that in all of the photos that Ashton is in his PJs; it was the warmest thing he had to wear!

Happy (belated) Halloween!

We celebrated a belated Halloween with one very cute little lobster.  We had lots of fun plans to usher in Ashton's first Halloween but most were cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy.  Determined to get him out and about though and make use of his adorable (and absurdly priced!) costume, we took him to a local senior center for trick or treating and to the costume party at the library.  He seemed to enjoy himself and it was so fun to see all of the little kids in their costumes.

We also had fun carving pumpkins and letting Ashton play with one very large pumpkin. Happy (belated) First Halloween to our favorite crustacean!

Carolina in My Mind

In September, we enjoyed our first family vacation together in the Outer Banks.  My family has been vacationing there since I was in high school and Jeff’s family has a long history of OBX trips also, so it seemed like the perfect spot to celebrate our first family vacation with the little man.

So,  Jeff and I rented a house on the beach and invited both of our parents, siblings and some friends to join us.  Fortunately, almost everyone was able to come and we had a wonderful time!  Ashton enjoyed walks on the beach, playing (and eating!) in the sand, dipping his toes in the ocean, making sandcastles, swimming in the pool and best of all, spending lots of time with the folks that love him the most!  He also tried eating fish (when in Rome, right?!?)  for the first time, which he surprisingly like a lot.

We had a great time and hope to make it an annual or biannual trip.  Lots of pics to commemorate the trip - enjoy!
