VA Meet & Greet

Every year Jeff’s family holds a family reunion in Virginia Beach.  Every year we miss it….except this year!  We made the trip down to VA to attend the reunion, which also happened to coincide with the host’s 50th wedding anniversary this year (v cool!).

This was Ashton’s first trip down to VA so in addition to the reunion he got to meet lots of new people over the 5 days that we were there, including his Great Grandpa Leonard, Great Great Aunt Julia (whose maiden name is Ashton) and his cousins Giovanni and Eric.  Grandma Nat (Jeff’s mom) also hosted a crab feast one day so we got to spend time with even more family, which was great!  It was wonderful to see everyone and so nice to see Ashton on the beach that Jeff grew up on and still loves so much.

The 'Burg

Last month, we took a roadtrip to Pittsburgh to meet Grammy, who was suffering from a serious case of Ashton withdrawal.  It's a short 2 hour jaunt for us but a 5 hour trek for my mom.  Jeff had to work all weekend, so it was just the three of us - Ashton, Grammy and I.  We had such a nice time playing in the hotel, enjoying meals out, walking around Pittsburgh and going to the zoo.  It was a surprisingly relaxing trip.

In fact, we had such a fun time and have vowed to go back.  Thanks, Grammy for coming to play!

Birthday Fun

Birthdays are kinda a big deal in our house.  Pre-Ashton, Jeff and I always planned a trip away to celebrate.  This year, we decided to continue the tradition, spending the weekend in Columbus to celebrate Jeff’s birthday.

We had lots of fun exploring and eating our way around Columbus.  On Saturday, we stopped in a small town called Powell (it  had to be good!) to have ice cream and then spent the afternoon at the Columbus Zoo.  Ashton had lots of fun at the zoo although it was roasty toasty that day so many of the animals were resting in the shade.  Saturday evening, we went to Columbus Brewing (the birthday boy’s request!) and had some very tasty beers and food.  Ashton loved it also and made friends with several of the surrounding tables.  He’s such a flirt!  On Sunday, we drove around OSU’s campus and checked out the football stadium (which is massive – think Roman Coliseum!) and stopped at an old German restaurant called Schmidt’s for lunch.  Schmidt’s appeared on Man vs. Food not too long ago and I’m happy to report that we gave Adam Richman a run for his money as we plowed our way through the buffet line.  It was yummy!
